» Bristol Cathedral
A prime example of late Norman architecture in Britain
and anywhere in the world, the Cathedral was built as an
Augustinian abbey in the 12th century. It was converted
into the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided
Trinity in 1542.
» SS Great Britain
The world's first iron steam ship was designed by a
great Victorian engineer, Isambard Brunel who also
designed the magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge. The
ship ran aground in the Falkland Islands but was brought
back and is now stationed at the same dock it was
created in 1845.
» Clifton Suspension Bridge
Perhaps the city's most famous landmark, the renowned
bridge is suspended over the Avon Gorge and offers a
dramatic scenery both day and night. The visitor center
nearby also provides knowledge about the bridge's
history, its maintenance as well as other interesting
tidbits about this fantastic man-made creation.
» Arnolfini Arts Center
Scheduled for a re-open in September 2005, the Arnolfini
ranks among one of Europe's leading contemporary arts
centers. It organizes many interesting lectures and
performances in addition to its wide range of artistic
displays.
» City Museum and Art Gallery
The City Museum and Art Gallery combines displays
concerning natural history, archaeology and arts
together in an exquisite Edwardian Baroque building. Its
Designated status awarded by the Government guarantees
the museum's outstanding exhibits.
» Blaise Castle House Museum
A visit to this charming 18th century estate provides a
wonderful insight into daily folk life in the past. Many
of the exhibits are children-oriented, and the examples
of Victorian household tools and costumes will surely
fascinate the parents as well.
» Bristol Industrial Museum
The Industrial Museum houses exhibits on Bristol's past
industries which include flying, printing, automobile
and many others. Some of the visitors' favorite among
the whopping total of 700 exhibits are the world's first
holiday caravan, the 50s steam carriage and a working
Gauge 1 model railway.
» British Empire and Commonwealth Museum
A 500-year history of the British Empire and the
Commonwealth has been accounted in this internationally
acclaimed museum that aims to explore the legacy of the
Empire and its effect on the modern world through its
collections of items, letters and memorabilia.
» Bristol Balloons
Bristolians are fascinated with hot air balloons, and
the Balloon Fiesta is one of the liveliest events in the
city. If you fancy observing Bristol from a different
angle, try the 1-hour balloon flight which is available
from April to October.
» At-Bristol
At-Bristol, the recent winner of "Family Attraction of
the Year" award, is a rare interactive science center
that makes both science and technology easy and fun. The
range of exhibits is enormous, some of which include the
IMAX Theater, the Wildwalk, and the amazing planetarium
among others.
